I was commissioned by the National Democratic Institute in 2022 to create a commission for their offices located at 455 Massachusetts Ave NW. I created a custom woven and painted collage which was mounted and installed in April 2022. The piece was created entirely from documents that NDI provided which document their four decades of "working for democracy and making democracy work."
This piece is composed of reports, documents and photographs from international election observation missions, voter ballots, NDI handbooks, and other artifacts chronicling the democratic process all over the world. All of the items have been deconstructed, woven or collaged, then painted to create this dynamic layered work of art. Sections of the commission were captured and produced into a wall vinyl as well.
I am inspired by the intersection of art and policy. My work celebrates the sacredness and delicacy of democracy and the determination required to protect it. I believe that the materials we use in our work have purpose and connection to our life experience and personal or professional community. I enjoy using these mixed media materials for the texture to tell a story with my work.
I was commissioned by JLL in 2019 to create a collection of unique commissions for their new office located at 2020 K St NW in DC. I used a mixture of limited edition giclee prints, photographic wall coverings, and mixed media commissions inspired by the building and developer plans to bring some energy and color into their space.
